On Monday, a crane will be operating from the church car park. The builders are building the structure on the vacant section that will go over the deck area outside rooms 15 and 16. The structure will be lifted from the vacant section, over the carpark, swimming pool and into position. This means a large part of the carpark will be closed for most of Monday. TEACHER ONLY DAY, FRIDAY 1ST JUNE.

At the beginning of the year our Teacher Only Day with Nathan Mikaere-Wallis was cancelled due to poor weather in Wellington and a flight cancellation.

Nathan is a Child Psychologist and an international speaker, with a focus on the first 1,000 days of a child’s life. Nathan has spoken to many school staffs and parent groups.

We have been given an opportunity to have Nathan with us in Rotorua on Friday June 1st
along with Kawaha Point School staff. Friday June 1st will therefore be a Teacher Only Day. It is the Friday before Queen’s Birthday. Mary-Ann Roling from the Glenholme After-School group will be running a programme at our school. If you would like to enrol your child  with Mary-Ann please contact her on 347 0709 or 0211 215599.

I apologise for the short notice, but this is too good an opportunity to miss for our staff.

David Macmillan,
Principal.

Talofa, Malo ni, Ni sa bula, Malo e lelei and welcome,
We would like to invite you to attend a meeting for our Pasifika families held in room 15 on Wednesday 23rd May, from 6-7pm.
We highly value our Pasifika community at St Mary’s School and would like to be able to share with you our current goals and successes for our Pasifika students.  This meeting will also be an opportunity to gain parent voice and feedback on how we can better meet the needs of our Pasifika students and families. Please indicate below if you are able to attend.
Homework Club – Starting on Thursday 24th May
We are also excited to launch our ‘Homework Club’ this term.  The Homework Club is specifically set up to offer extra learning time and support for our Pasifika students after school.
Every Thursday from 3.15pm-4.15pm students can meet in the library to complete any home reading or homework they would like support with.  Parents are also welcome to attend, to gain tips and ideas on how to support learning at home.

Please fill in the slip below and return to either myself or your child’s teacher by Monday 21st May.
Thank you for your support,
Athlene Wallbank (Room 15)

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION - VALUES
Presently we are reviewing our School Values. Staff, BOT and some children have had an input into what these values might look like at St Mary’s. I would like some feedback from parents too. I would like to meet interested parents next Thursday at 2.30pm in our staffroom with a second opportunity again at 3.30pm. It would be great if you could come to one of these meetings and give us some feedback.
Our school values put Christ at the Centre. The cross displays our primary values which are placed in correlation to the head, hands and feet of Jesus. These are: Wonder, Respect, Excellence and Courage. Our secondary values circulate around the outside of the cross, still connecting to our primary values: Curiosity, Creativity, Care, Integrity, Perseverance, Confidence, Passion, Resilience and Gratitude. Deliberately placed at the centre of the cross is the acronym J.O.Y. (Jesus, Others, Yourself) within a heart shaped koru. All values are promoted with consideration to Jesus, Others and Yourself. Underneath J.O.Y is Faith, which underpins all of our values.
